Recognizing that energy issues and their economic, environmental and legal implications have never been more important, McGuireWoods’ cross-discipline, cross-practice energy industry team brings together legal, policy, energy technology and business experience to meet the challenges our clients face.

Our energy industry experience has been recognized for the depth of our bench (more than 80 interdisciplinary lawyers) and the extent of our experience. We have been serving some of our energy clients for nearly 50 years. On Law360’s 2012 Largest Law Firms list, McGuireWoods’ energy practice ranked 12 out of 100 top firms.

As the industry has changed, McGuireWoods’ energy lawyers have been part of its evolution. Our experience crosses sectors and legal practice areas, and we represent electric and gas utilities; independent and renewable generation developers; coal, natural gas (conventional and unconventional), uranium, petroleum, and renewable fuel suppliers, maturing cleantech companies and start-ups (biomass, hydroelectric, solar and wind). Our team experience also includes the financing, organization management, purchase and sale of energy projects, ventures and resources. Our lawyers and consultants understand the energy business, the regulatory environment and other challenges facing energy-related businesses.

Experienced lawyers from our energy, environmental, mergers and acquisitions, finance, capital markets, real estate development, tax and litigation practice groups, along with representatives from our public-affairs subsidiary, McGuireWoods Consulting, work together to help our clients with a wide range of issues.
