November 5, 2024

The McGuireWoods construction team hosted clients and friends on Oct. 29, 2024, for Construction Industry Challenges, an engaging seminar that highlighted legal and practical considerations on three topics:

This alert is the first of a series of three updates on these important subjects. If you would like to discuss any of the identified issues, strategies and solutions in more detail, please contact a member of McGuireWoods’ construction team.

Anticipating and Avoiding Construction Issues

Many unanticipated construction issues can arise. The challenges of developing real estate in complex urban settings, the specificity of associated land-use approvals, and multiple layers of covenants and recorded encumbrances often lead to issues that can affect the substance and timing of the construction process.

In this segment, McGuireWoods partners Greg Riegle and Scott E. Adams identify issues that developers routinely encounter, such as crane swing and tie back easements and covenant-related constraints, and outline practical strategies to anticipate issues and manage potential risks.

A video of the full seminar and slides are available on the McGuireWoods website. Additional information regarding McGuireWoods’ construction practice also is available here.
