McGuireWoods presents an interactive program that explores ethics issues involved in lawyers’ practice and their firms, using limericks as a fun, engaging way to learn.
The program will address:
- Unauthorized practice of law and multijurisdictional practice (including the definition of legal practice, temporary and virtual practice, and choice of ethics rules)
- Law firm creation (including law firm names, hiring and noncompetes)
- Law firm operation (including paralegals, trust accounts, fee sharing and file ownership)
- Marketing (including content limitations and marketing intrusiveness)

Spahn has served on the ABA Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility, and has spoken at more than 2,300 CLE programs on ethics and other topics. Tom was selected as the 2013 and 2020 metro-Washington, D.C., “Lawyer of the Year” for “Bet the Company Litigation” by Best Lawyers®.
CLE applications will be made for the state of Virginia. Applications to support other jurisdictions will be made for McGuireWoods attorneys and current McGuireWoods clients. A certificate of attendance will be distributed to program attendees.
