Corporate counsel recently ranked McGuireWoods a commercial litigation powerhouse and a leading law firm for M&A, according to two surveys conducted by BTI Consulting Group.
In “BTI Litigation Outlook 2022: Post Pandemic and Beyond” — based on unprompted feedback from legal decision makers at large companies in 15 industry sectors — McGuireWoods earned recognition in seven litigation practice categories. McGuireWoods was one of only six law firms to earn the powerhouse rating — BTI’s highest — for general commercial litigation. In addition, the firm was rated a “standout” for intellectual property and employment litigation and a “leader” for class action, product liability, complex employment and complex commercial litigation.
“The BTI report is another measure of the depth and breadth of our litigation capabilities,” says Dion Hayes, McGuireWoods’ deputy managing partner for litigation. “Moreover, our track record helping businesses anticipate and manage litigation risks has us well-positioned to assist clients with new challenges that emerge in the post-pandemic economy.”
Similarly, corporate counsel singled out McGuireWoods as a leading law firm for M&A in “The BTI M&A Outlook 2022: A Whole New World of M&A.” McGuireWoods was one of only six firms identified as a “powerhouse” for advising clients in private M&A transactions and one of only eight rated as the best for straightforward mergers. According to BTI’s report, clients turn to as few as two law firms to handle these types of deals. The firm also was labeled a “standout” for deals attracting regulatory scrutiny.
The report looks ahead at the post-pandemic deal market and identifies the law firms corporate counsel consider best suited to handle their needs. The findings are based on interviews conducted with top legal decision-makers at large corporations with $1 billion or more in revenue.
McGuireWoods consistently ranks among the leaders in U.S. and global M&A deals — including private equity transactions — in league tables published by Bloomberg and Refinitiv. The firm’s M&A practice has earned nationwide recognition from Chambers USA and The Legal 500. The firm’s significant deals in 2021 include advising Teledyne Technologies Inc. in its merger agreement to acquire FLIR Systems Inc. in a cash and stock transaction valued at approximately $8 billion.
“We are proud to consistently earn our clients’ recommendation as a leading law firm,” says Tracy Walker, McGuireWoods’ managing partner. “We pride ourselves on understanding our clients’ business needs and delivering innovative legal solutions. We are grateful for the confidence they place in us.”
McGuireWoods also was one of 11 law firms singled out by corporate counsel for superior client service in BTI Consulting Group’s “Most Recommended Law Firms” report. BTI said the most recommended firms “exceed client expectations consistently and demonstrate deep business understanding.” Those findings are based on more than 350 phone interviews with in-house leaders at large companies with $700 million or more in revenue. Most corporate counsel hire a law firm based on a single recommendation from a peer, and superior client service is the leading driver of those recommendations, according to BTI’s report. Key components of superior service noted in the report include delivering an excellent client experience, mobilizing quickly, being easy to engage, developing custom solutions and incorporating deep industry insights.
