Christopher Lloyd, senior vice president and director of McGuireWoods Consulting’s infrastructure and economic development team, explained the grant funding process for new Virginia economic development initiatives in an article published in the November issue of Virginia Business magazine.
The article spelled out how GO Virginia, which consists of a state board and nine regional councils, will award grants for proposals that create high-paying jobs and strengthen regional economies. Lloyd explained that an initial round of grants totaling $10.9 million will be available for award to the nine regions on a per-capita basis by the end of this year. A second round totaling $11.3 million will be distributed through a statewide competitive process early next year, the article noted.
McGuireWoods Consulting played a key role in establishing GO Virginia and helped secure its overwhelming passage by the General Assembly in 2016. GO Virginia’s mission is to help expand and diversify the state’s economy and create jobs through financial incentives, technical support, and other assistance that encourages collaboration among business, education, and government in each region of the Commonwealth.
