In an interview with Corporate Counsel Business Journal, Dallas partner Jon Finger discussed McGuireWoods’ independent sponsor initiative, the impact of independent sponsors in the private equity sector, and how he and the firm’s lawyers add value for their clients and their network of independent sponsors.
“Being highly entrepreneurial means that you’re always looking for ways to improve upon an already successful model,” Finger said in the interview. “Our group of lawyers recognized that we needed to take a different approach to our practice if we were going to have the success that we wanted. We were not willing to merely be service providers and wait for the phone to ring from our clients. So we began by aggressively growing our network, adding value to our network, and then sharing our network freely with no expectation of anything in return.
He concluded, “Over these years, we have seen this approach pay off, as our client base and network have grown exponentially.”
A valuable component of this initiative, McGuireWoods’ annual national conference for independent sponsors and capital providers, will be held Oct. 2-3 in Dallas.
