Numerous media outlets recently reported on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Aug. 27 appointment of McGuireWoods alum Melissa Nelson, along with five other individuals, to the state’s Opioid Task Force. Nelson was senior counsel in the firm’s Jacksonville, Florida, office before winning election as state attorney for the Fourth Judicial Circuit in 2016. She was recently featured in an ABA Journal cover story on reform-minded prosecutors who have made marks in their communities by increasing transparency and community engagement.
The task force, which DeSantis announced in April, is charged with “develop[ing] a statewide strategy and identify[ing] best practices to combat the opioid epidemic through education, treatment, prevention, recovery, and law enforcement.”
