McGuireWoods London partner Matthew Hall was quoted in an April 16, 2020, Compliance Week article on whether European regulators are relaxing compliance rules and enforcement during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Contrary to what business publications have reported, regulators are still pursuing noncompliance and have issued statements and guidance to this effect, including in the areas of financial services, data and competition. While the European Union and some European national antitrust and competition authorities have allowed temporary coordination between competitors to find medical and other solutions, companies should not think these arrangements represent a “new normal.”
“Beyond ensuring supply of essential goods and services, the rules around competition law continue to apply in the same way,” said Hall.
