McGuireWoods London office managing partner and employment lawyer Daniel Peyton and banking and finance partner Marc Naidoo published a Feb. 23, 2021, article in Personnel Today titled “Why ESG Should Be High in HR’s Priorities.”
The article discussed a societal push toward greater corporate responsibility with regard to how companies impact the environment and communities from a social perspective. In the article, the authors addressed the importance of employers prioritizing environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals through their internal human resources policies and operational practices.
Peyton and Naidoo noted that “as the market moves, businesses need to find ways of reflecting that change in their culture and the behaviour of leadership and employees.”
“[L]eadership, regulation and remuneration policies will all play their part in advancing the ESG agenda,” the authors wrote, and there are considerations for building incentives into HR policies that promote compliance.
“Ultimately success will depend on there being an economic benefit in pursuing that agenda,” they wrote.
