Financier Worldwide, a UK publication covering corporate finance and board-level business issues, honored McGuireWoods London partner Francesca Titus as a “Distinguished Advisor” in “POWER PLAYERS: Investigations & White-Collar Crime 2021.”
In its Q&A with Titus, the publication asked about her career motivations and approach to work. She said “preparation is key” and “the devil is in the details” are two lessons learned in law school that persist in her representation of clients today. As far as motivation, Titus said she advises business leaders in times of crisis, when they are caught up in high-profile investigations or prosecutions, and she enjoys the associated challenges of these high-stakes situations. “Achieving justice for my clients is very motivating.”
The interview also touched on her mentorship of young lawyers, mainly as a London office co-leader of McGuireWoods’ Women Lawyers Network, which supports the professional development of women lawyers and raises awareness of women’s issues.
Highlighting Titus’ career representing companies and individuals in white-collar crime litigation, the publication asked her about trends or developments likely to influence her area of focus in the coming months. “The pandemic is having a significant global economic impact,” Titus said. “When the economy suffers, levels of financial crime increase.” She noted a number of areas likely to see an uptick, such as fraudulent claims for government aid, employee misconduct enabled by remote working, and corporate tax evasion.
