Law360, The National Law Journal, Bloomberg Law, Reuters, The Washington Post, IJGlobal, Global Legal Chronicle and Corporate Counsel Business Journal were among the national media outlets that covered the recent arrival of McGuireWoods partner Shannon M. Kasley, who joined the firm’s Business & Securities Litigation Department in Washington, D.C.
He brings 25 years of experience representing multinational companies in commercial and civil litigation and appeals, including clients in the oil and gas industry. Kasley joined McGuireWoods from King & Spalding. He described the evolution of his practice in an interview with Law360.
“It grew into a practice where I’ve got some really strong oil and gas clients who look to me for all different kinds of matters because they trust me as a litigator,” he said. “And then they also trust my judgment in terms of ‘I can’t do everything.’ I know I can’t do everything, but then I can find them the right people, and McGuireWoods really fit that approach in terms of how they want to try to work with clients, and form partnerships with clients and find the right people. That really was attractive, and really fit in with how I’ve done things for so many years.”
Law360 ’s story noted that Kasley’s work includes serving as co-lead counsel for an oil and gas company in a $1 billion lawsuit filed by a municipality and 35,000 area residents alleging personal injury, property damage and lost wages following a large fire at a refinery in California. In that case, Kasley led the team that defeated the municipality’s claim for lost tax revenue and settled its remaining claims.
