Savoy magazine — a leading African American business, culture and lifestyle publication — featured McGuireWoods partners Greg Kilpatrick and Gerald Thomas in a Feb. 18, 2022, article on the firm’s Black Professionals in Private Equity & Finance (BPE) initiative, which is celebrating its first anniversary.
Launched in January 2021 by Kilpatrick and Thomas, the initiative is designed to help Black private equity and finance professionals develop business opportunities and drive progress toward a more diverse and inclusive community.
“Access to capital is a persistent challenge for Black-owned businesses and McGuireWoods wants to be part of the solution,” wrote Kilpatrick, chair of the firm’s Securities & Capital Markets Department. “We believe that increasing diversity in private equity and finance will result in more capital flowing to Black and other minority owned businesses.”
Thomas, chair of the firm’s Tax & Employee Benefits Department, added, “McGuireWoods’ deal work and innovations distinguish the firm as a leader in private equity and finance. BPE builds on that success by providing a platform for Black private equity and finance professionals to expand their relationships and opportunities.”
Kilpatrick was one of three McGuireWoods partners recently named to Savoy’s “2022 Most Influential Black Lawyers” list honoring top partners and corporate counsel for their professionalism, protection of rights and community service.
