McGuireWoods Washington associate Michael A. Brody recently spoke to Law360 about the news that Judge Bernice B. Donald, who sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, has been awarded the National Judicial College’s Sandra Day O’Connor Award.
Brody, a litigator who clerked for Judge Donald before joining McGuireWoods, said that Donald was uniquely well qualified for the prestigious award.
“She has such an incredible story, and I am constantly inspired by her dedication and lifetime commitment to public service,” Brody told Law360 in its Sept. 1 story. “I cannot think of anybody more deserving of this award.”
Donald, the first African American woman to serve on the Sixth Circuit, is the first judge to be competitively selected for the honor, Law360 reported. The award was established in 2021, with the inaugural award going to former U.S. Supreme Court Justice O’Connor herself.
