Law360, Bloomberg Law, Reuters Daily Docket, Global Legal Chronicle, IJ Global and Politico were among the national media outlets that covered the recent arrival of McGuireWoods partner Brian Franklin, who joined the firm’s Regulatory & Compliance Department in Charlotte.
Franklin comes to McGuireWoods from Duke Energy, where he spent 15 years, most recently as managing director of regulatory affairs for North Carolina. In that role, he led a team that handled regulatory matters for subsidiaries Duke Energy Carolinas and Duke Energy Progress, which serve a combined 3.7 million electric retail customers in North Carolina.
Franklin told Law360 that he was familiar with the McGuireWoods attorneys who represented Duke Energy as outside counsel during his time with the company. He added that the combination of high-quality attorneys and the strength of its regulatory team were some of the reasons he decided to join the firm.
Franklin said his experience in the regulatory environment was a natural fit for McGuireWoods. “Having been on the corporate side, I could see the type of work and level of expertise they had. The way that they work and the respect they showed with commission attorneys and public staff was what really made the firm distinguish itself. It was the total package and seemed like a wonderful fit for me.”
