Bloomberg Law Reports on McGuireWoods’ New Partner Hires in Washington, D.C.

October 29, 2024

McGuireWoods attracted national news coverage for the recent hiring of prominent Washington. D.C., partners who strengthen the firm’s position to meet the growing demand for counsel on antitrust, securities enforcement and FDA regulatory matters.

In an Oct. 9, 2024, story, Bloomberg Law interviewed key firm leaders about the additions of Megan S. Lewis, former assistant chief of the Washington criminal section of the Justice Department antitrust division; David Hirsch, who led the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s crypto assets and cyber unit; Clint Narver, former assistant director of the Justice Department’s consumer protection branch; and Kevin Madagan, a leading healthcare and FDA regulatory lawyer. After the article was published, the firm announced the arrival of D.C. partner David Martin Connelly, a nationally recognized energy regulatory lawyer.

The firm undertook a strategic recruiting process to enhance its powerful antitrust, government investigations, securities enforcement, and healthcare and life science capabilities, firm leaders told Bloomberg Law.

“In an election cycle, you see more people popping out of government so we’re being a little opportunistic,” said Noreen Kelly, deputy managing partner for litigation. “Each of the practices that those folks joined are moving up market.”

Bloomberg Law also interviewed Richard Viola, deputy managing partner of the firm’s corporate practice; Jason Cowley, chair of the Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department; and Elizabeth Hogan, managing partner of the D.C. office and co-leader of the firm’s securities enforcement and regulatory counseling practice group.

In addition, the story quoted Washington, D.C.-based recruiter Amy Savage, who said McGuireWoods has a record of capturing legal talent in the nation’s capital because of its history of successfully integrating government lawyers into law firm partnerships.

“They are known as a platform where former government attorneys are welcomed and valued,” Savage said.
