Law360, The National Law Journal, Bloomberg Law and Securities Docket were among the media outlets that covered the recent arrival of McGuireWoods counsel Garen Marshall, who joined the firm’s Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department in Charlotte and New York.
Marshall, a former federal prosecutor and U.S. Navy special forces combat veteran, represents organizations and individuals in investigations concerning corruption and fraud, including wire and securities fraud, honest services violations, money laundering and racketeering. He also served in the Navy as an explosive ordnance disposal technician during Operation Iraqi Freedom and was awarded the Bronze Star, Army Commendation and 12 other military service medals.
In Law360’s Feb. 20, 2024, story, Marshall said he was drawn to McGuireWoods because of the firm’s white collar practice and its commitment to serving veterans. Noting that he has founded and chaired two veterans advocacy organizations, Marshall said he shared the firm’s dedication “to veteran issues and pro bono for veterans in need.”
“In looking at firms, I was aware that McGuireWoods has a robust and well-developed veterans program where I could continue my pro bono efforts for veterans,” he explained.
Marshall said he enjoys criminal law because he helps people navigate the most stressful experiences in their lives. “In my current practice in the white collar area, I can use my talent and experience to help institutions and individuals involved in sprawling complex investigations,” he said. “That makes it a natural career progression.”
