Law360, Bloomberg Law, The National Law Journal the Daily Journal and Global Legal Chronicle were among the national and regional legal media outlets to cover the arrival of McGuireWoods partners Shailika Shah Kotiya and Aaron Marienthal, who joined the firm’s Financial Services & Securities Enforcement Department in San Francisco.
Kotiya has more than a decade of experience as a federal prosecutor, most recently as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Northern District of California. Marienthal returned to McGuireWoods after serving several years as senior vice president and general counsel at Payactiv Inc., a financial technology platform that provides workers with on-demand access to earned wages.
In an interview with Law360, the partners said they hope to target work in the bustling technology and fintech industries in the Bay Area.
“I’d really love to get a broad base of tech work in the San Francisco market. That’s a goal of mine to really establish the firm’s presence in the Bay Area for that kind of work,” Marienthal said.
Kotiya said she was drawn to McGuireWoods by the firm’s reputation as a leader in financial services litigation as well as government investigations.
“Drawing on my DOJ experience, I was really looking for a firm with a national reputation. That initially put McGuireWoods on the map for me,” she said, adding that she values the firm’s “reputation for excellence” and “commitment to teamwork and collaboration.”
Reuters also noted the arrivals of Kotiya and Marienthal in the Sept. 11, 2024, edition of its legal newsletter, The Daily Docket.
