Law360, Bloomberg Law, Commercial Dispute Resolution, Anti-Corruption Report, Securities Docket and Global Legal Chronicle were among the media outlets that covered the arrival of Washington, D.C., partners Steven McCool and Julia Coleman, who joined the firm’s Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department.

McCool and Coleman — who practiced together at boutique litigation firm McCool Law before coming to McGuireWoods — represent companies and individuals in matters related to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, honest services fraud, OFAC, export controls, bank fraud, money laundering, securities fraud, government contracting fraud, and mortgage and other accounting fraud.

McCool, a former federal prosecutor and a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, has served as lead counsel in more than 75 criminal and civil jury and bench trials. He was an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, where he served in the Criminal, Civil and Superior Court Divisions.

McCool told Law360 in a Dec. 3, 2024, story that he and Coleman “were looking to expand the scope of our practice in terms of our existing clients” and to bring their experience “to a bigger firm like McGuireWoods to enhance their substantial practice as well.”

Coleman added that she and McCool were drawn to McGuireWoods by the firm’s capabilities across practices and industries, touting the firm’s deep bench of experience and skill. “[W]e’re really excited to be able to dig into and work … on a number of new matters.”
