Law360, Bloomberg Law, IPE Real Assets, Politico’s “Illinois Playbook” and Global Legal Chronicle were among the media outlets that covered the arrival of McGuireWoods partner Phillip Coover, who joined the firm’s global real estate practice in Chicago.
Coover leads McGuireWoods’ real estate initiatives in Chicago and the Midwest. He handles sophisticated real estate transactions and financings and provides strategic guidance for developers, investors, syndicators and other industry clients. He has closed billions of dollars in commercial property acquisitions, financings, leasings and dispositions for commercial real estate investment companies and developers as well as private equity lenders, investors and business owners.
Coover, a licensed real estate managing broker, also brings industry connections made through his Chicago-centric commercial real estate podcast, Law360 noted. The podcast, “Real Estate for Breakfast,” features interviews with business owners, brokers, real estate investors and other commercial real estate players.
Coover told Law360 that he looks forward to expanding McGuireWoods’ real estate capabilities in Chicago and serving clients based in the city.
“McGuireWoods has a very large presence here in Chicago, and I’d like to have a lot more Chicago national projects be originated out of the Chicago office,” Coover said in Law360’s Feb. 3, 2025, story. “It would be awesome if we had a nice big group of people where, even if their deals are outside of Chicago, are coming from Chicago-based companies.”
Reuters also included news of Coover’s arrival in the Feb. 4, 2025, edition of its morning newsletter, “The Daily Docket.”
