Jennifer Stearman, a partner in McGuireWoods’ Baltimore office, has been named one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women for 2015 by the Maryland Daily Record. Stearman will be inducted into the Circle of Excellence, an honor reserved for those who have made the annual list three times.
The Daily Record launched Maryland’s Top 100 Women in 1996 to recognize outstanding achievement by women demonstrated through professional accomplishments, community leadership and mentoring.
Stearman is a member of McGuireWoods’ nationally recognized debt finance practice, which received a Tier 1 metropolitan ranking for Baltimore in U.S. News-Best Lawyers’ 2015 Best Law Firms. McGuireWoods was also named “Law Firm of the Year” for Banking and Finance Law in the 2015 edition.
Stearman’s practice focuses on the energy and healthcare industries. She represents borrowers, including healthcare systems and hospitals, underwriters, credit providers, corporate trustees and other agents in a diverse range of tax-exempt and taxable finance transactions.
Stearman is regional co-chair of McGuireWoods’ Women Lawyers Network and is involved in formal mentoring programs to support women lawyers at the firm. Her professional leadership roles also include serving as chair of the Maryland State Bar Association Business Law Section Committee on the Uniform Commercial Code from 2010 to 2012.
Stearman has been a leader on several volunteer boards in the Baltimore area, including the board of visitors of the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital. She has served on the board since 2004 and was its chair from 2011 to 2014. She spearheaded numerous successful fundraising efforts for the hospital, most recently for a new neonatal intensive-care unit. Stearman also serves as the Circle of Red co-chair for the American Heart Association Mid-Atlantic Affiliate’s “Go Red For Women” campaign.
Nearly 400 women were nominated for the statewide honor this year. A panel of judges comprised of business professionals and past Top 100 Women winners reviewed the applications and selected this year’s honorees. Stearman, who also made the list in 2007 and 2012, is one of 11 three-time winners who will be inducted into the Circle of Excellence this year.
The awards will be presented at a reception on Monday, May 4, at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore. The award winners will be profiled in a special magazine that will be inserted into the Friday, May 8, issue of The Daily Record and published online at www.TheDailyRecord.com.
