Driven by last year’s opening and subsequent rapid expansion of its new Dallas office, McGuireWoods earned the distinction of being Texas’ fastest-growing law firm in 2014, according to a survey published Monday by the newspaper Texas Lawyer.
McGuireWoods, with offices in Houston, Dallas and Austin, increased its number of lawyers by 63 percent over the previous year, concluded “The Texas 100” survey based on a count of average full-time equivalents in the Texas offices of law firms.
McGuireWoods ramped up its ambitious Texas expansion in March 2014, opening its Dallas office – the third in the state – with six lateral partners. By October, the headcount had grown to 20 and has since nearly quadrupled its original roster.
McGuireWoods moved into Texas in 2011 by opening offices in Houston and Austin, where it also established a presence for its highly regarded public affairs group, McGuireWoods Consulting. Texas Lawyer notes that all five of the fastest-growing firms in its survey are based outside of Texas, an indicator of how much interest there is among law firms to establish operations in the state.
“Our rapid growth in Dallas is a testament to McGuireWoods’ commitment to Texas and our desire to provide a full range of client services in this strategically important market,” said Akash Sethi, managing partner of McGuireWoods’ Dallas office. “We’re excited about the team we’re building here.”
