McGuireWoods represented clients in two major corporate deals that were winners in the 2016 M&A Advisor Awards, which recognize top mergers and acquisitions from the past year and the firms involved in closing the transactions.
The firm was recognized for its role in the merger of Sorin SpA and Cyberonics Inc., judged the M&A Deal of the Year for transactions worth $1 billion to $5 billion. McGuireWoods represented Rothschild, which served as financial advisor to Sorin, an Italian medical device company. Sorin’s merger with Houston-based Cyberonics created a global medical technology company called LivaNova PLC, which develops solutions for cardiovascular diseases. New York partner Jeffrey L. Rothschild led the McGuireWoods team representing Rothschild.
“We were proud to represent Rothschild as the financial advisor to Sorin in this transformational deal, which has opened up exciting possibilities in medical technology,” Rothschild said. “This is a great example of the important role our financial advisory services team plays in complex corporate deals.”
McGuireWoods was also recognized for representing Morehead Capital in the sale of Chopt Creative Salad Company to L Catterton, a consumer-focused private equity firm. The transaction was Private Equity Deal of the Year for deals valued at $100 million to $250 million. Charlotte partner Bradley S. Austin led the McGuireWoods team representing Morehead Capital, which has since merged with Investors Management Corporation (IMC). The team also included partner J. Michael Wilson and counsel Ann Terrell Dorsett.
“We’re delighted to be recognized for our work on this transaction, which underscores the firm’s strengths and reputation in the food and beverage industry,” Austin said. “McGuireWoods is grateful for our relationship with IMC and were pleased to close this deal for a valued client.”
