McGuireWoods’ international trade team in Brussels achieved a Band 3 ranking in Chambers and Partners’ 2016 Global Guide — up from Band 4 last year. Released March 17, the authoritative annual rankings are based on matters submitted by the firm and on clients’ anonymous feedback.
Clients commented on the service the firm provides and the close attention paid to their business needs. “McGuireWoods’ consistently positive delivery distinguishes the practice from other firms,” one client said. In discussing the team, the publication also singled out Brussels partners Vassilis Akritidis, who leads the firm’s European International Trade Practice, and Yves Melin as notable practitioners.
“What impresses me is the way in which he argues matters with such confidence and depth of knowledge. It is remarkable, as we very seldom see such profound knowledge,” one client interviewed by Chambers said of Akritidis.
Of Melin, clients said they were “ ‘very impressed’ with his advice regarding anti-dumping issues, particularly as concerns industry-leading clients from Korea and Taiwan.”
In its summary of the firm’s overall international trade work, Chambers editors cited McGuireWoods’ “highly skilled anti-dumping and anti-subsidy practice” and praised its expertise in customs law and sanctions. They took particular note of lawyers’ experience in advising clients across Asia.
Significant firm clients noted in the summary included Taiwan Steel & Iron Industries Association, Posco, The Association of German Textile & Fashion Industries, Raajratna Metal Industries, and TK Corporation.
