Corporate counsel rated McGuireWoods among the “best of the best” law firms in three key client service categories, placing it among the most elite law firm brands in a nationwide survey by the BTI Consulting Group.
McGuireWoods jumped seven spots from a year ago to No. 18 overall in the rankings, which are compiled in a new report, “BTI Brand Elite 2016: Client Perceptions of the Best-Branded Law Firms.” The independent, industrywide report ranks firms with the best brand standing among general counsel and legal decision makers at companies with annual revenue of $1 billion or more. Firms are rated on performance in nine areas that most affect a law firm’s brand and positioning in the market.
Specifically, McGuireWoods was included among the report’s “Best of the Best” recommended law firms, a group of just eight firms that clients would recommend to peers without prompting. McGuireWoods also was listed among the top 12 firms that clients would turn to first when a new need arises, and among the top nine firms for delivering more value than clients expect.
BTI identified McGuireWoods as a leader for its effective use of technology and for delivering new and valuable services that other firms do not. The firm made BTI’s “honor roll” for bet-the-company litigation; for providing “premium worthy” service; and for being more likely than other firms to be a long-term industry leader.
BTI researchers conducted in-depth telephone interviews with 639 legal decision makers to gather feedback on which firms stand out in each of the nine performance categories.
“They have exceptional client service and they staff matters efficiently,” said one client, a senior counsel with a leading chemical company.
“They have a versatile bench and a strong central team that oversees our case,” added an associate general counsel from a large food and beverage company.
