Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal has recognized McGuireWoods partner Kevin McGinnis on its 2016 list of “Power Players: Sports Lawyers & Outside Counsel.” In the June 27 special report, SBJ — the nation’s premier sports business publication — honored lawyers who represent sports industry leaders in landmark legal matters.
McGinnis advises lenders in sports financing projects involving major leagues and professional franchises. A member of the firm’s Debt Finance Practice, he has extensive experience negotiating credit facilities on behalf of banking institutions that lend to NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL franchises, as well as English Premier League soccer clubs. He notably represented a client on the financing of the Atlanta Falcons’ new stadium and, along with other members of McGuireWoods, English soccer team Manchester United FC related to a package of debt refinancing transactions.
“I am honored to be recognized among those who represent the sports industry’s top talent and organizations,” McGinnis said. “It is a privilege to work with clients in negotiating deals that have a lasting impact on the sports industry and on the communities that support their teams.”
“We are proud of what Kevin has accomplished in working with clients on major sports financing deals,” said Richard Grant, who leads McGuireWoods’ sports industry team. “We congratulate him in receiving this much deserved recognition.”
McGuireWoods’ sports industry team comprises a multidisciplinary group of lawyers who have served clients in matters impacting the sports industry for more than 30 years. The team, honored by Law360 as a 2015 “ Sports Practice Group of the Year,” has deep experience handling landmark league financing and marketing deals and endorsement contracts, and advising clients in mergers and acquisitions and other investment transactions within the industry.
