McGuireWoods partner Jon Finger was honored in Texas Lawyer’s 2019 Texas Trailblazers issue for his role leading the firm’s nationwide initiative to connect independent sponsors with capital partners for specific deals.
Under Finger’s leadership, the initiative sponsors networking groups for independent sponsors and family offices focused on direct investments throughout the country. As part of the initiative, he oversees McGuireWoods’ Independent Sponsor Conference, the country’s largest event not held by a “for profit” organizer, which last year drew more than 600 independent sponsors and capital partners. The 2019 conference held Oct. 2-3 in Dallas hosted over 800 independent sponsors and capital partners.
Finger, who focuses his practice on private equity and corporate transactions, also was recognized by The National Law Journal as an “M&A Trailblazer” in 2018 for his pioneering role creating the firm’s independent sponsor initiative.
“I am proud to work with a talented team of lawyers in institutionalizing a novel deal-sourcing strategy,” Finger said. “It is deeply rewarding to be part of an initiative resulting in transactions that have shaped the market for deal terms under the independent sponsor model.”
In 2018, Financial Times named McGuireWoods the most innovative firm in the business of law in its prestigious North America Innovative Lawyers report, with the firm earning a “Standout” ranking — FT’s highest — in the Strategy and Changing Behaviors Category for its independent sponsors initiative.
McGuireWoods ranks among the leading law firms for middle-market private equity deals in Bloomberg’s league tables, partly because of its success with independent sponsor transactions.
