Michael Anzelmo has joined McGuireWoods and McGuireWoods Consulting as an energy regulatory partner and policy advisor in the firm’s Columbia, South Carolina, office.
Anzelmo previously served as chief of staff and counsel to South Carolina House of Representatives Speaker James H. “Jay” Lucas and he has significant experience leading cases before South Carolina state and appellate courts. Prior to public service, Anzelmo was a litigation partner at a national law firm handling appellate cases, consumer finance and state constitutional litigation, and attorney discipline matters. He represented South Carolina governors and two House speakers in litigation before the state Supreme Court.
Anzelmo, a partner in McGuireWoods’ Regulatory & Compliance Department, provides strategic and policy advice to clients in matters before the South Carolina Legislature and state government agencies.

After law school, Anzelmo served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Kaye G. Hearn of the South Carolina Court of Appeals and as a staff attorney for the South Carolina Court of Appeals.
