The National Law Journal named McGuireWoods partner Raj Natarajan a Finance, Banking and Capital Markets Trailblazer, recognizing his leadership of the firm’s world-class debt finance practice and his work advising lenders in healthcare industry transactions.
Building on years of experience leading deals across industries, Natarajan developed a national practice representing financial institutions lending to healthcare and life sciences companies. He co-chaired McGuireWoods’ 2019 Healthcare and Life Sciences Private Equity and Finance Conference, one of the largest private equity conferences in the U.S. healthcare market. His leadership and work in healthcare lending previously earned him recognition as an MCCA Rainmaker by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, the legal profession’s premier diversity and inclusion organization.
Natarajan chairs McGuireWoods’ nationally recognized Debt Finance Department, a team of more than 90 lawyers in the United States and London that represents leading financial services institutions, including the top 10 U.S. banks ranked by assets. McGuireWoods has ranked among the top 10 U.S. law firms for syndicated loans for the past eight years in league tables published by Refinitiv, previously Thomson Reuters.
In the NLJ profile, Natarajan attributed the consistent performance to McGuireWoods’ ability to attract lawyers “who want to work together to build our collective practice.”
“The fact that we are in the top ten for league tables year in and year out has meant a lot for our firm,” Natarajan said. “And with our finance lawyers sitting across the country, we are able to handle the full spectrum of deals and deal sizes.”
During Natarajan’s leadership of the Debt Finance Department, McGuireWoods was named a Law360 “Banking Practice Group of the Year” and has earned multiple honors as banking and finance “Law Firm of the Year” from U.S. News-Best Lawyers’ “Best Law Firms.”
