McGuireWoods’ Michele Satterlund has been selected to receive a Law360 Distinguished Legal Writing Award. Presented by the Burton Awards, a national nonprofit program run in association with the Library of Congress, the legal industry’s premier distinguished writing honor is given to only 30 articles selected from nominations submitted by the nation’s 1,000 largest law firms.
Satterlund, a McGuireWoods partner and a senior vice president with McGuireWoods Consulting, was recognized for “Sidewalks: The Next Mobility Frontier,” published Aug. 7, 2018, by Law360. The article explained how cities and states are adopting policies to accommodate technologies such as delivery robots and shared stand-up scooters that are changing how sidewalks are used to move goods and people.
Satterlund’s clients include national and international companies in the technology, pharmaceutical, transportation, healthcare and manufacturing industries. She leads McGuireWoods Consulting’s Women in Public Affairs initiative, which provides a platform for women in government affairs and advocacy to share thought leadership and best business practices and raise their profiles.
“It is a tremendous honor to be included among a select group of lawyers for this prestigious award,” Satterlund said. “It is especially rewarding to be recognized for analysis of a public policy issue that states and local governments throughout the country are confronting as new technologies expand mobility options.”
Satterlund and other winners will be recognized at a May 20 awards ceremony at the Library of Congress. Law360 and the American Bar Association sponsor the awards program, now in its 20th year.
The Burton Awards are funded by the Burton Foundation, a nonprofit academic initiative that rewards excellence in the legal profession. The Burton Awards were established to honor the finest accomplishments in the law, including writing, reform, public service and public interest, regulatory innovation and lifetime achievements.
