Gerald V. Thomas II, chair of McGuireWoods’ Tax & Employee Benefits Department, has been selected for another term as leader of the Real Estate Investment Trusts (REIT) Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law.
The committee focuses on real estate, tax and securities issues related to REITs and provides programming and publications for section members. The committee also examines the use of REITs in private equity funds, foreign investment in U.S. real estate and capital-raising efforts. Thomas will begin his new term as committee chair on Sept. 1.
“This is a fitting recognition of Gerald’s impressive contributions in the field of tax law and the high regard in which he is held nationally,” said J. Tracy Walker IV, McGuireWoods’ managing partner.
Thomas focuses his practice on complex transactional tax matters and has represented numerous REITs in public offerings, joint ventures, and mergers and acquisitions totaling billions of dollars. He is sought out by media for his insights on REITs.
“I am honored to be entrusted with the responsibility of chairing this group nationally and look forward to a productive year,” Thomas said.
