The Pittsburgh Business Times named McGuireWoods associate Susan Barrett to its 2019 “30 Under 30” list honoring rising stars in the region’s business and nonprofit communities. The awards are a partnership between the Business Times and Leadership Pittsburgh Inc., an organization dedicated to building a pipeline of diverse civic leaders.
Barrett is a corporate lawyer with a focus on mergers and acquisitions who mentors students in the Pittsburgh area. She represents companies, private equity firms and institutional investors, playing key roles on numerous McGuireWoods deal teams.
Barrett is a member of the firm’s Women in Private Equity & Finance Initiative, which promotes the advancement of women lawyers and deal professionals and provides networking opportunities. She works closely with law students in the firm’s summer associate program. She also is an executive committee member of the Women’s Bar Association of Western Pennsylvania.
At Duquesne University School of Law, she designed and teaches a course on mergers and acquisitions as an adjunct professor. Barrett volunteers in Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh’s Mentor 2.0 program, which empowers students to graduate from high school and succeed in college.
“Susan has impressed us with her dedication to the firm and our clients and her commitment to making a difference in the community,” said David Hornyak, managing partner of McGuireWoods’ Pittsburgh office.
Barrett and other honorees were featured in the Aug. 9 edition of the Pittsburgh Business Times and will be recognized at an Aug. 15 awards ceremony.
“I am grateful for this recognition and the opportunities I have been presented to serve McGuireWoods’ clients, as well as impact others in my community,” Barrett said.
