McGuireWoods Pittsburgh partner Penny Zacharias has been named one of the Pittsburgh Business Times’ 2020 Women of Influence for her career achievements and contributions to the community.
An accomplished lawyer in one of the world’s pre-eminent banking and finance law firms, Zacharias has more than 15 years of experience representing financial institutions in lending transactions. Over the past two years, she has helped clients close nearly 50 deals totaling approximately $3.3 billion.
“I am honored to represent McGuireWoods in this group of distinguished women business leaders who are changing their industries and making our community stronger,” Zacharias said.
Zacharias co-chairs McGuireWoods’ Women in Private Equity & Finance initiative, which promotes the advancement of women through industry-focused events that provide educational and networking opportunities. Under her leadership, the network has expanded dramatically to include more than 800 women. Zacharias also chairs the McGuireWoods Pittsburgh Women’s Leadership Forum.
She serves on the board of directors for the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. In working with the museum for more than a decade, she was instrumental in the $19 million capital drive that facilitated construction of its MuseumLab, which opened in 2019.
Zacharias also sits on the executive committee of United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s Women’s Leadership Council and on the planning committee for Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania’s Women of Distinction luncheon.
“This honor is a testament to Penny’s standing as a leader at McGuireWoods and in the community,” said David Hornyak, managing partner of the firm’s Pittsburgh office. “We are so happy she has been recognized for her exceptional work for clients and for the powerful example she sets for future women leaders.”
Women of Influence honorees will be featured in a Pittsburgh Business Times special section and feted at a March 12 event at the Westin Convention Center Hotel.
