The National Law Journal has named McGuireWoods partner David Pivnick a Healthcare and Life Sciences Trailblazer, recognizing him as an innovator who develops cutting-edge defenses in healthcare-related litigation and investigations.
Pivnick, co-leader of the firm’s healthcare and life sciences industry team, is a litigator who represents clients across the country in matters related to the False Claims Act, contract law, restrictive covenants, partnership disputes, managed care issues, injunctive relief and unfair competition. With more than a decade of experience, he counsels hospitals, insurance companies, physician practices, medical device manufacturers and ambulatory surgery centers. He also helps clients respond to government investigations; defend against alleged violations of the False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark Law; and leads internal investigations in connection with these statutes.
The NLJ noted his ability to establish trust with the U.S. Department of Justice and develop strong strategies “for his clients to respond to civil investigative demands and subpoenas.”
“Knowing what a client is trying to accomplish and being able to sit down with DOJ to help reach those objectives are key,” Pivnick told the NLJ.
Pivnick is an editor and contributing author to McGuireWoods’ FCA Insider blog, and an organizer and speaker at the firm’s annual Healthcare Litigation and Compliance Conference.
“It is an honor to be recognized for helping clients navigate legal challenges in the healthcare and life sciences industry,” Pivnick said. “I am proud to be part of a team that has established a reputation for leadership in this important sector of the economy.”
