McGuireWoods Atlanta partner Cheryl Haas has been named to the Daily Report’s 2020 list of Georgia Trailblazers, recognizing legal professionals who have made significant contributions in their practice areas. Haas, a highly respected financial services litigator, is profiled in a special issue of the Daily Report, an American Lawyer Media publication, for her professional achievements and for pro bono efforts to revitalize Northwest Atlanta.
“I am honored to be recognized among this esteemed group of individuals whose work has made such a positive impact on our community and profession,” Haas said.
As chair of McGuireWoods’ Financial Services Litigation Department, Haas advises Fortune 100 companies, investment advisers and broker-dealers in high-stakes disputes in courts and before securities regulators. She previously served as chair of the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation Department.
A member of the firm’s Diversity Action Council, Haas mentors lawyers of color and women lawyers to become partners. She was instrumental in McGuireWoods’ adoption of the Mansfield Rule, certifying that the firm considers at least 30 percent women, lawyers of color, LGBTQ+ lawyers and lawyers with disabilities for 70 percent of firm leadership and governance roles, equity partner promotions, formal client pitch opportunities and senior lateral positions.
In addition to her national law practice, Haas provides pro bono counsel and serves on the board of Grove Park Foundation, a nonprofit working with the public, private and nonprofit sectors to help end cycles of generational poverty in Atlanta. She advises on governance issues, land purchases, partnership agreements, policy and procedures, and community events that support the organization’s efforts to facilitate preschool-to-college education, encourage the arts, provide affordable housing, and nurture green areas within the community.
