McGuireWoods is a winner of The M&A Advisor’s Cross Border Deal of the Year Award for its role assisting Teledyne Technologies in the company’s 2019 acquisition of 3M’s gas and flame detection business. The firm will be recognized Jan. 21, 2021, during the publication’s International M&A Awards honoring top mergers and acquisitions and the firms involved in closing the transactions.
McGuireWoods served as legal counsel to Teledyne in its $230 million acquisition of 3M’s gas and flame detection business, including Oldham Simtronics, Gas Measurement Instruments, Detcon and select Scott Safety products. The transaction was named Cross Border Deal of the Year in the $100 million to $250 million category.
The deal involved asset and stock deals for all of the encompassed businesses, with 500 employees in six countries. Lawyers from seven McGuireWoods offices advised on issues including tax, antitrust, labor and employment, and intellectual property and consulted with the firm’s strategic alliance partner FuJae Partners on Chinese law. Pittsburgh partner Scott Westwood led the McGuireWoods deal team representing Teledyne.
“We are proud of our long association with Teledyne and grateful for the opportunity to represent the company in strategic M&A deals that advance its business objectives,” Westwood said. “This honor is a reflection of our firm’s depth and broad-based capabilities.”
The M&A Advisor selected the award winners from hundreds of nominations that were evaluated by an independent judging panel made up of renowned experts in the field.
McGuireWoods consistently ranks among the leading law firms for U.S. and global M&A deals, including private equity transactions. The firm earned top five rankings for U.S. deal count and top 10 rankings for global deals in the first half of 2020 in league tables published by Refinitiv and Bloomberg.
