The North Carolina Housing Coalition presented McGuireWoods partner Mary Nash Rusher with the organization’s Robert Kucab Professional of the Year Award for her longstanding dedication to North Carolina’s tax-exempt bond programs, which have increased the state’s supply of affordable multifamily housing.
Rusher, managing partner of the firm’s Raleigh office, and the firm’s public finance team have been involved in nearly all of the state’s affordable housing bond issues over the past decade that involve tax-exempt bonds and 4% tax credits. She also continues to work with local governments and nonprofit organizations to find innovative ways to provide more affordable housing in North Carolina.
“I am honored to receive this award from the North Carolina Housing Coalition, which has done so much to advance policies and secure resources to meet affordable housing needs in our state,” Rusher said.
The North Carolina Housing Coalition is a nonprofit dedicated to pursuing policies at the local, state and federal levels to improve the supply, quality and accessibility of affordable housing. The organization’s Robert Kucab Professional of the Year Award is named for the former executive director of the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency.
Rusher is a partner in McGuireWoods’ Public Finance Department and a member of the firm’s multidisciplinary affordable housing team. In addition to affordable housing, she assists local governments and nonprofits in traditional tax-exempt financings of capital projects, as well as in innovative financings involving public-private partnerships, synthetic tax increment financing and new markets tax credits.
