McGuireWoods continues to strengthen its nationwide energy transactional capabilities with the arrival of San Francisco partner Evelyn Kim, an accomplished project finance attorney with extensive experience advising clients in acquiring, developing and financing renewable energy generation facilities.
Kim represents investors, lenders, private equity funds, independent power producers, sponsors and developers involved in solar, battery energy storage, wind and biomass projects. She leads projects in various stages of development, from initial bid through financial close and into commercial operation. She advises on debt and equity tax financing, development, and acquisition and disposition of those facilities.
Her deal experience includes representing clients in commercial and utility-scale solar projects in all regions of the country, as well as battery energy storage system projects in California and Texas.
Kim and associates Kim Stouffer and Caroline Jo come to McGuireWoods from DLA Piper. They join a practice that represents clients across the energy spectrum, including utilities, conventional oil and gas investors and operators, leading sponsors and developers of solar, wind and thermal generation and financial institutions.
“Evelyn has an in-depth understanding of the renewable energy market and a wealth of experience guiding clients through complex financing deals,” said Joanne Katsantonis, McGuireWoods’ deputy managing partner for development. “Evelyn, Kim and Caroline are exceptional lawyers who will be key contributors to our renewable energy team.”
“Evelyn, Kim and Caroline enhance our West Coast presence and make our national practice even stronger at an important time in the industry,” said Michael Woodard, chair of McGuireWoods’ M&A and Energy Transactional Department.
McGuireWoods consistently ranks among the leaders in U.S. and global M&A deals — including private equity transactions — in league tables published by Bloomberg and Refinitiv. McGuireWoods’ M&A practice has earned nationwide recognition from Chambers USA and The Legal 500. The firm also was a finalist for best energy practice in The American Lawyer’s inaugural Corporate Departments of the Year awards.
“We are delighted to welcome Evelyn, Kim and Caroline. They are important additions for us as we continue to broaden our client service capabilities in the Bay Area,” said David Powell, managing partner of the San Francisco office.
“McGuireWoods has a deep bench of industry-focused attorneys who excel at helping energy clients achieve their business objectives,” Kim said. “The firm is a perfect fit for my practice and I look forward to collaborating with team members across the country for the benefit of our clients.”
