McGuireWoods Pittsburgh office managing partner David Hornyak has been recognized as a 2021 Best Law Firm Mentor by The Legal Intelligencer, an American Lawyer Media publication.
Honorees were selected for exemplary leadership in preparing the next generation of legal talent for success in their careers and for their contributions to the industry. This year’s honorees will be celebrated at an awards dinner on June 24.
Inspired by the mentors he had early in his career, Hornyak prioritizes balancing his busy practice with mentoring firm associates. Through unwavering accessibility and support, he helps provide newer lawyers hands-on experiences that develop the professional skills they need to succeed.
According to Hornyak, robust mentorship builds teamwork and fosters a collegial atmosphere, which helps associates work harder and more effectively and instills confidence to help pave the way to future successes. As a mentor, he enjoys watching associates branch out from learning the basics to serving clients of their own.
“Helping younger colleagues build a foundation for professional success is immensely rewarding,” Hornyak said. “I am honored to receive this recognition and grateful to my McGuireWoods colleagues for creating a culture that values mentorship.”
Since joining McGuireWoods in 2004, Hornyak has maintained a diverse M&A practice, representing publicly and privately held companies, private equity funds, family offices and institutional co-investors, independent sponsors and executives in a variety of transactional matters. He acts as outside general counsel for privately held companies and private equity-backed portfolio companies that have limited internal legal resources. He also co-leads the firm’s regional independent sponsor roundtable groups in Pittsburgh and Cleveland.
