Partner Michael Podberesky (aerospace and defense board) is a former federal prosecutor experienced in healthcare and government procurement fraud matters. He is a member of McGuireWoods’ Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department and co-chairs the False Claims Act investigations, litigation and enforcement team. He also served in the U.S. Navy as a Naval flight officer.
Partner John E. Thomas Jr. (cannabis board) represents businesses in employment law matters. He also counsels clients on drug-testing policies, cannabis laws, and balancing risks and perspectives on cannabis use and legalization.
Partner George Keith Martin (construction board) practices construction, commercial real estate and local government law. He represents public and private entities on major construction projects, including public-private partnerships. This is Martin’s fourth consecutive year on the construction board.
Partner Christopher M. Michalik (employment authority labor board) advises clients in all areas of traditional labor representation, including in corporate transactions that involve the sale or purchase of unionized entities; union organizing proceedings; collective bargaining and other interactions with unions that represent client employees; arbitrations; and litigation before federal courts and the National Labor Relations Board.
Bernard L. McNamee (energy board) is a law firm partner and McGuireWoods Consulting senior adviser. He previously served as a commissioner on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. He focuses on legislation, rulemaking, strategic planning and policy development, including issues involving Congress, FERC, the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency. McNamee also served on Law360’s energy board in 2021.
Partner Edwin “Ned” Childs (government contracts board) is a member of McGuireWoods’ Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department and government contracts practice. He represents clients in enforcement, compliance, counseling, protest and claims actions across industries, including the defense, services, technology, energy, cybersecurity and aerospace sectors.
Partner Tom Spahn (legal ethics board) is a commercial litigator who serves as the firm’s legal ethics counsel. He is a national authority who advises in-house counsel on ethics issues, including conflicts of interest and confidentiality. Spahn is a pioneer in researching, analyzing and reporting on legal ethics and privilege topics, and he has delivered more than 2,000 CLE programs around the world. This is Spahn’s fifth consecutive year on the legal ethics board.
Mike Andrews (Native American advisory board) is a law firm partner and McGuireWoods Consulting senior vice president. He has 20 years of Indian law experience as a federal, state and tribal litigator and policy expert, and previously served as staff director and chief counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, where he was instrumental in getting over 50 bills signed into law and increasing appropriations. He leads McGuireWoods Consulting’s policy work on matters impacting Native American tribes.
Partner S. Virginia Bondurant Price (personal injury and medical malpractice board) is a trial and appellate lawyer handling product liability, consumer class actions and commercial litigation across the country. She advises clients on labeling and warnings for consumer products and helps clients implement litigation, discovery and litigation avoidance strategies.
Associate Anna Horevay (project finance board) serves clients as bond, underwriter, bank, developer and borrower counsel. She is a go-to attorney in the project finance space, particularly through her work on high-profile public-private partnerships.
Partner Gerald V. Thomas II (tax authority federal board) chairs McGuireWoods’ Tax & Employee Benefits Department. He focuses on complex transactional tax matters, including M&A, private equity funds, public offerings and REITs. Thomas co-leads McGuireWoods’ Black Professionals in Private Equity & Finance initiative. He served on Law360’s tax editorial advisory board in 2018 and the tax authority federal board in 2021.
Partner Jon Neal (tax authority international board) advises businesses and their owners on corporate, partnership, and international tax planning and transactional matters, including cross-border mergers, joint ventures, acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings and financings.
