McGuireWoods partner Kristen McDermott Woodrum has been appointed chair of the American Health Law Association’s 2023 Physicians and Hospitals Law Institute, an education program focused on the legal, regulatory, transactional and compliance challenges faced by physician organizations, hospitals and health systems. The program will take place Jan. 30-Feb. 1, 2023, in Orlando, Florida.
The American Health Law Association (AHLA) is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit educational organization devoted to legal issues in the health field. AHLA’s Physicians and Hospitals Law Institute provides education and networking opportunities for in-house and outside counsel, compliance officers, privacy officers, reimbursement specialists, accountants, consultants, and others who advise physician organizations, hospitals and health systems.
Woodrum has served in a number of AHLA leadership roles, including co-chair of the 2022 program in New Orleans. She also is a frequent speaker at AHLA programs, including the June 2022 annual meeting in Chicago and April 2022 healthcare transactions program in Nashville.
“We are proud that Kristen will serve in this leadership role for one of AHLA’s signature education programs,” said Holly Buckley, chair of McGuireWoods’ Healthcare Department. “The program will benefit tremendously from Kristen’s insight and industry knowledge, just as our clients do.”
Based in Atlanta, Woodrum is an accomplished lawyer and strategic adviser with more than 16 years of experience representing healthcare providers and investors. She advises health systems and providers on strategic affiliations, physician alignment strategies, and innovative healthcare delivery and payment models, as well as on operational and compliance matters.
“I am excited and honored to chair AHLA’s 2023 Physicians and Hospitals Law Institute,” Woodrum said. “It is a pleasure to work with our fantastic committee and speakers and give back to AHLA. We look forward to having informative and compelling discussions about the legal and regulatory challenges healthcare providers face in today’s market.”
