McGuireWoods will receive the National Veterans Legal Services Program’s Pro Bono Partner of the Year Award, to be presented Nov. 16, 2022, at the NVLSP’s annual benefit at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. The honor recognizes the extraordinary pro bono services provided by McGuireWoods and the firm’s commitment to serving veterans.
McGuireWoods’ Veteran Lawyers Network has worked with the NVLSP’s Lawyers Serving Warriors program since 2019. The firm’s lawyers have taken over 40 cases for full representation, including Board of Veterans’ Appeals matters, discharge upgrades, Integrated Disability Evaluation System cases, military sexual trauma discharge upgrades, Combat-Related Special Compensation, and a U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims case.
“It has been gratifying to establish and grow our pro bono partnership with the NVLSP,” said partner Michael Podberesky, chair of McGuireWoods’ Veteran Lawyers Network. “I’m thrilled our lawyers have the opportunity to help those who have selflessly served our country.”
McGuireWoods also has partnered with the NVLSP to offer legal clinics and is a lead partner for medical retirement benefits clinics held in conjunction with U.S. Special Operations Command. During the pandemic, McGuireWoods and corporate partner Wells Fargo spearheaded Lawyers Serving Warriors’ first remote clinic for injured Special Forces service members seeking information and guidance regarding military medical retirement benefits. Washington, D.C., associate R. Andrew Austria, pro bono coordinator of McGuireWoods’ Veteran Lawyers Network, leads the firm’s relationship with NVLSP.
