Jeff Goldfarb, a top acquisition finance lawyer with more than two decades of experience advising clients on private equity-led deals, has joined McGuireWoods as a partner in New York.
Goldfarb is well known for representing private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies, along with lenders, in acquisition financings. He advises banks, direct lenders, investors, sponsors and borrowers in complex debt and preferred equity transactions, including leveraged buyouts, management buyouts, public company M&A deals, secured and unsecured corporate credit facilities, high-yield bond offerings, workouts and restructurings.
Goldfarb counsels public and private corporations across industries, including financial services, technology, consumer products, manufacturing, insurance and infrastructure.
“Jeff will be a major asset for our debt finance and private equity teams,” said Richard W. Viola, deputy managing partner of the firm’s corporate practice. “His significant experience complements our strengths and enhances our market-leading capabilities in both areas.”
Goldfarb is ranked as a leading banking and finance lawyer in Chambers USA. He comes to McGuireWoods from Paul Hastings and previously served as vice chair of Willkie Farr & Gallagher’s finance practice.
“Jeff’s reputation as one of the nation’s preeminent finance lawyers precedes him,” said Kevin McGinnis, chair of McGuireWoods’ Debt Finance Department. “The insight he gained from advising lenders and borrowers in complex transactions will have enormous benefits for our clients.”
Added Jeffrey Chapman, managing partner of the firm’s New York office: “Jeff is a highly respected legal and strategic adviser and an important addition to our New York practice.”
McGuireWoods has one of the largest finance practices in the United States, representing each of the top 10 U.S. banks ranked by assets, as well as fintech companies and broker-dealers. The firm consistently ranks among the top U.S. law firms for deal count and dollar volume in lending league tables published by Refinitiv, Bloomberg and Debtwire.
McGuireWoods has twice been named a “Banking Practice Group of the Year” by Law360 for excellence representing financial institutions in litigation, transactional and regulatory matters.
In addition, the firm consistently ranks among the leaders in U.S. and global M&A deals — including private equity transactions — in league tables published by Bloomberg and Refinitiv.
“McGuireWoods has one of the nation’s top finance practices and an innovative and entrepreneurial private equity team that excels in helping clients achieve their business goals,” Goldfarb said. “This is a perfect fit for my practice and I look forward to putting my experience to work for our clients.”
