Megan S. Lewis, who served as an Assistant Chief of the Washington Criminal Section of the Antitrust Division in the U.S. Department of Justice, has joined McGuireWoods as a partner in Washington D.C. In her role at DOJ, Lewis managed teams of trial attorneys and supervised criminal antitrust investigations and litigation in a wide range of industries, including financial services, employment practices, government contracting, pharmaceuticals, construction and real estate, and industrial products.
Lewis will advise clients on internal and government investigations, follow-on civil litigation and other antitrust disputes, and provide counsel on antitrust compliance and risk mitigation. She brings a decade of experience leading major domestic and international antitrust matters at DOJ, including six years as an assistant chief.
At DOJ, Lewis also was detailed to the Office of the Deputy Attorney General and the Office of Legislative Affairs, where she coordinated responses to congressional oversight requests and helped prepare department leadership for public testimony before congressional committees. Before joining DOJ in 2014, she spent seven years in private practice advising clients on antitrust matters and other complex commercial litigation.
“Meg’s background in government service and private practice gives her the insight and credibility to help clients assess their antitrust exposure, navigate litigation challenges and develop sound compliance programs to minimize risk,” said Noreen Kelly, McGuireWoods’ deputy managing partner for litigation.
Jason Cowley, chair of the firm’s Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department, added: “Meg’s leadership, working relationships and in-depth knowledge of DOJ’s approach to antitrust criminal enforcement are enormous assets for our team and our clients.”
Said Holden Brooks, co-leader of the firm’s antitrust practice group: “Meg enhances our capabilities in Washington and nationally. She is highly respected in the antitrust bar and is a sought-after speaker and presenter on domestic and international antitrust and competition issues.”
Lewis joins a McGuireWoods practice that represents clients throughout the world in antitrust and competition law matters, including litigation and government investigations, business antitrust counseling and mergers.
The firm’s antitrust lawyers appear before courts, agencies and tribunals throughout the United States and in Europe and are recognized as leading practitioners by Chambers USA, Legal 500 United States and The Best Lawyers in America.
“McGuireWoods’ antitrust and government investigations practices have national reputations for excellence, providing a perfect fit for me as I return to private practice,” Lewis said. “I look forward to providing our clients with the strategic guidance to address antitrust challenges and achieve their business goals in the current climate of increased antitrust scrutiny and enforcement.”
Lewis is the fourth partner to join McGuireWoods’ D.C. office in the past three months. David Hirsch, former chief of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit, joined the firm’s securities enforcement and regulatory counseling practice. The firm also bolstered its healthcare and life sciences counseling and enforcement capabilities with partners Kevin Madagan and Clint Narver, who have extensive private practice and government experience in matters affecting U.S. Food & Drug Administration regulated industries.
“Meg is a valuable addition to our deep roster of skilled attorneys with high-level government experience and we are delighted to welcome her,” said Elizabeth Hogan, managing partner of the firm’s D.C. office.
