North Carolina Lawyers Weekly named McGuireWoods Charlotte partner Brad Kutrow and counsel Garen Marshall to its 2024 class of Icons & Phenoms, honoring the region’s most accomplished and promising legal professionals.
Kutrow was recognized on the publication’s icons list. A former chair of the firm’s Financial Services Litigation Department, Kutrow handles complex litigation focused on business torts, finance, securities and products liability. He was the founding chair of the Appellate Practice Section of the North Carolina Bar Association and is a past chair of the NCBA’s Appellate Rules Committee, which serves as a liaison between the state’s appellate bench and bar.
Kutrow is McGuireWoods’ lead lawyer in the Protecting Journalists Pro Bono Program, a national initiative of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press that gives startup and nonprofit newsrooms no-cost legal help with pre-publication review and public records access.
Marshall, chosen as a phenom, is a former federal prosecutor and a member of the firm’s Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department. He represents organizations and individuals in investigations concerning corruption and fraud, including wire and securities fraud, honest services violations, money laundering and racketeering. He is a U.S. Navy special forces combat veteran who served during Operation Iraqi Freedom and was awarded the Bronze Star, Army Commendation and 12 other military service medals.
“Brad is among the most respected attorneys in North Carolina and a pillar in McGuireWoods’ litigation practice, and Garen is an accomplished lawyer and military veteran,” said Brian Kahn, managing partner of McGuireWoods’ Charlotte office. “We congratulate them on this well-deserved recognition.”
