Corporate Counsel Name Six McGuireWoods Partners as BTI Client Service All-Stars

June 4, 2024

McGuireWoods partners Michael R. Daglio, Edmund D. Daniels, Jonathan P. Harmon, Joanne Katsantonis, Joseph K. Reid III and Elaine Sanderlin Ryan were recognized for excellence on BTI Consulting Group’s 2024 Client Service All-Stars list.

All-Stars were selected based on unprompted responses from corporate counsel at companies ranging in size from $1 billion in revenue to the largest companies in the world.

Daglio represents clients in product liability and commercial disputes in federal and state courts throughout the country. He also handles matters before the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. He advises manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers on compliance with consumer product safety laws, reporting obligations and product recalls. Daglio also was selected as a Client Service All-Star in 2022.

A client praised Daglio’s commitment, telling BTI: “Mike is available whenever I need him, and always with the right answer to hand.”

Daniels uses his prior experience in senior leadership roles at major energy companies, infrastructure funds and banks to assist market participants in conventional and renewable energy asset and commodity transactions. He advises clients on joint ventures to develop, own and operate power plants and gas pipelines; and on the acquisition and disposition of power plants, natural gas and fuel oil pipelines, gas storage facilities and real property.

“Eddy’s commitment to help is obvious every time we work with him, no matter how small the issue,” a client told BTI.

Harmon has served as McGuireWoods’ chairman since 2017. He represents Fortune 500 companies in bet-the-company litigation across the country. His clients include some of the largest U.S. financial institutions as well as telecommunications giants and leading automotive, food and product manufacturers. Companies often call on him to “parachute” into high-exposure cases shortly before trial. He also was named a Client Service All-Star in 2014 and 2016.

Katsantonis is a strategic adviser to energy companies — from public utilities and independent power producers to financial investors — and handles some of the most sophisticated M&A deals in the energy industry. She also acts as general corporate adviser on matters including corporate structuring, governance issues, partnership and joint venture issues, and compliance and risk management. Katsantonis is the firm’s former deputy managing partner for development and former chair of the energy industry team. She previously was selected as a Client Service All-Star in 2020 and 2022.

Said one client: “Joanne is a great attorney, always engaged and efficient.”

Reid is a nationally recognized trial attorney, energy regulatory lawyer and client counselor with more than 30 years of experience in civil and administrative litigation. He frequently leads teams of lawyers representing some of the country’s largest energy companies and their electric and gas utilities. Reid is a former chair of the firm’s Regulatory & Compliance Department and a former member of the firm’s Executive Committee. He also was selected as a Client Service All-Star in 2020 and 2022

“We have a relationship with Joe and his team that most people are envious of,” a client said of Reid.

Ryan represents electric and natural gas utility clients in complicated regulatory litigation, including base rate, fuel cost and rider recovery proceedings, certification of new generation facilities, and financing and affiliates act approvals before state regulatory commissions. She frequently advises clients on discovery issues, codes of conduct and affiliate transactions, and other regulatory compliance matters. Ryan co-chairs McGuireWoods’ Women Lawyers Network and is a member of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee.

One client lauded Ryan for her responsiveness, saying: “Elaine is accessible no matter when we need her.”

McGuireWoods consistently ranks among the leading law firms in BTI’s surveys of corporate counsel. The firm has been recognized 18 times on BTI Consulting’s Client Service A-Team report, the gold standard for measuring client service excellence.
