McGuireWoods has been honored in The M&A Advisor’s 15th Annual International M&A Awards, earning recognition for its role in the Materials Deal of the Year. The annual awards program recognizes top corporate transactions across industries and the firms involved in closing them.
McGuireWoods represented Virginia-based Carpenter Co., a leading producer of comfort cushioning products, in its €450 million ($484 million) acquisition of Belgium-based Recticel’s global engineered foams business in 2023. The deal required approval from regulators in the United Kingdom, so McGuireWoods crafted an innovative strategy to expedite the approval process. In response, the U.K.’s competition regulator fast-tracked its review and approved the deal.
McGuireWoods Richmond partner Patrick De Ridder represented Carpenter throughout the deal.
“We were proud to assist Carpenter in a complicated, cross-border transaction that was crucial for its continued success and created what’s now the world’s largest vertically integrated manufacturer of polyurethane foams and specialty polymer products,” De Ridder said.
The M&A Advisor selected the award winners from hundreds of nominations evaluated by an independent judging panel made up of experts in the field. Winners will be recognized at the 2024 Leadership in Dealmaking Summit, to be held Sept. 23-24 in New York City.
McGuireWoods ranked among the leading law firms for advising clients in M&A transactions in 2023, again earning high ratings for U.S. M&A deals in year-end league tables published by the London Stock Exchange Group, Mergermarket and Bloomberg.
