Jon is a highly regarded attorney who has focused on financial services for more than 20 years. Jon has held senior leadership roles in two major financial institutions, which gives him a unique perspective on the commercial and legal needs of banks, underwriters, private credit funds and other institutional financing sources.
Jon’s practice is focused on debt finance – both secured and unsecured – and related capital markets transactions. He has deep experience in syndicated finance, asset-backed structured finance and asset-based lending. In addition, Jon has been active in public finance for more than 20 years, including extensive work amending transactions to address changes in the maximum federal corporate tax rate in 2017.
Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Jon led legal support for several lines of business at PNC Bank, including large corporate banking, public finance, asset backed finance, ABL and specialty industries. In addition, Jon served as the Chief Legal Officer of PNC Capital Markets LLC, PNC’s institutional broker/dealer. Earlier in his career, Jon led legal services for Bank of America’s Commercial Banking Division.
Jon’s clients appreciate his commercial approach to legal services. He focuses on the most salient issues first and is careful to explain clearly the implications of conceding or fighting for each point. Through this process, Jon’s clients are able to make informed decisions regarding their transaction and risk preferences, while being informed by, but not controlled by, the market standard for similar deals.
“A collaborative relationship between the lawyer and the client team is essential for success; a transactional lawyer must be more than a scrivener, they should serve as a key advisor to the client.”
