Ryan maintains a national practice representing health care-focused private equity funds and their portfolio companies, independent sponsors investing in health care, and hospitals and health systems in a wide range of transactional and regulatory matters. Ryan leverages his broad experience in transactional and regulatory matters to provide solutions to complex health care matters arising in traditional mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and other complex collaborations.

Ryan is a transactional generalist with mergers and acquisitions experience representing clients across a range of health care subsectors. He has specific experience representing strategic and financial sponsors in the acquisition and and sale of physician practice management platforms, hospice and home health agencies, behavioral health providers, pharmacies, clinical research organizations, and veterinary practice management platforms.

Ryan also advises portfolio companies, hospitals, and health systems on federal and state controlled substance compliance matters, both in the establishment of compliance programs and in the response to diversion events. Ryan also counsels on health care antitrust issues arising from provider collaborations.

Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Ryan served as an associate general counsel at a children’s hospital, and as an associate at two law firms with nationally ranked health care practices.

  • Represented private equity fund in acquisition and sale of veterinary practice management platform.*
  • Represented private equity fund in acquisition of contract research organization and clinical trial site companies to establish de novo platform.*
  • Represented private equity fund in acquisition of specialty pharmacies.*
  • Represented health system in controlled substance diversion response to U.S. Attorney’s Office.*
  • Advised laboratory service providers in establishment of national COVID-19 testing programs for higher education institutions.*
