Alex concentrates his practice in labor and employment litigation, representing employers across a variety of industries in a broad array of employment matters, including suits involving allegedly discriminatory employment practices, wage and hour issues, leave and benefit issues, state law negligent hiring and retention cases, and workplace violence.
In addition to his litigation practice, Alex also provides employment practices counseling services designed to help clients develop strategies for achieving their business objectives while mitigating the risk of legal exposure. Alex regularly counsels clients on workplace topics including employee handbooks and personnel policies, employee hiring and discipline decisions, regulatory compliance, accommodation and leave issues, employment and restrictive covenant agreements, reductions in force, and other workplace topics.
Alex helps navigate high-risk workplace investigations involving allegations of misconduct against all levels of management, including members of senior and executive leadership.
Alex also facilitates workplace training on topics such as anti-harassment and anti-discrimination strategies, affirmative action programs, and best practices for human resources professionals.
Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Alex earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he served as lead articles editor for the Journal of Law & Politics. Alex received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington and Lee University, where he graduated magna cum laude and was elected Phi Beta Kappa.
