Katie is an associate in the firm’s Commercial Litigation Department, representing clients in a wide range of proceedings in the Court of Appeal, High Court and arbitral forums, often with an international element. Her experience includes acting in complex proceedings and group litigation for individual and corporate, domestic and overseas clients.

Katie also has extensive white collar defence experience, including acting for clients facing investigations and prosecutions brought by the Serious Fraud Office, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, the Financial Conduct Authority and the Crown Prosecution Service. Prior to joining McGuireWoods as a trainee in 2015, Katie worked at the Financial Conduct Authority where she assisted in the Supervision Department and the General Counsel Division.

Experience

  • Representation of a vehicle manufacturer and its authorised dealers in defending group litigation claims relating to NOx emissions in diesel vehicles.
  • Representation of a claimant in the London “Russian Aviation Litigation” relating to western-owned aircraft trapped in Russia and Ukraine following Russia’s invasion in February 2022.
  • Representation of a businessman charged with multiple counts of insider dealing in a prosecution brought by the Financial Conduct Authority.
  • Representation of an international pharma distributor against a cross-border profit share claim in relation to the supply of coronavirus testing kits.
  • Successful representation of a CEO and founder of a tech company in proceedings brought against him under the Bribery Act 2010.
  • Representation of a hotelier client in a swaps mis-selling claim against a major bank relating to LIBOR.
  • Representation of a Romanian non-profit organisation against a Dutch engineering company in ICC arbitration proceedings.
  • Representation of a BVI company in a US $33million arbitration before    the Netherlands Arbitration Institute in respect of a cement plant development in Kazakhstan.
  • Representation of minority shareholders in unfair prejudice petitions against shareholders and directors of a property management company.
  • Pro Bono representation of an individual client in relation to the conversion of business assets.
  • Successful representation of client in successive winding up petitions issued by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.
  • Representing a UK technology company and its US parent in relation to an investigation and subsequent self-report to the Serious Fraud Office, which successfully secured the second Deferred Prosecution Agreement to be approved in the UK.
